Leaving the stunning city scenery of Porto, we will travel along the wide Portuguese roads. Passing through green hills and vineyards, typical of the North of Portugal. Until we arrive at the first city on this route, Braga! Founded by the Romans under the name of Bracara Augusta, this city is one of the most ancient Portuguese cities, with more than 2000 years of history. The city is famous for its historic center and its rich monumental heritage.
The first place we will visit will be the Braga Cathedral, one of the most emblematic monuments in Portugal. Founded in the 11th century, this cathedral is the oldest in the country. Visiting its interior will be an enchanting experience, which will allow us to contemplate the architectural beauty of this place.
After visiting this religious monument, we will continue this charming tour in Braga. Until we reach the magnificent Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. Considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this baroque sanctuary is known for its majestic staircase, with more than 500 steps. Arriving in Guimarães, it’s time to start exploring. Known as the “Cradle of Portugal”, this city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a living symbol of the beginning of Portuguese nationality.
We will start by visiting the grand Guimarães Castle. Built in the 10th century by Countess Mumadona Dias, this castle served to protect the region from invaders. Walk along the walls and towers, and experience an experience that will take you back to Portugal's historical past.
Near the castle, we will visit the historic Church of São Miguel do Castelo. It dates back to the beginning of the 12th century and is deeply linked to the origins of Portugal. According to legend, it was here that the baptism of the first King of Portugal, Dom Afonso Henriques, took place. Visit its interior and immerse yourself in its historical and cultural richness.
Next, we will explore the magnificent Palace of the Dukes of Braganza. An impressive 15th-century residence that reflects the opulence and power of the time.
