Your expert guide will meet you at your hotel or accommodation. We will follow this full day private tour in the best possible way, in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, and water.
At a first and brief stop, we will visit a small border town - Arcos de Valdevez - where you can delight yourself with all the natural scenery of the banks and walk across the Ponte dos Arcos over the River Vez. Take the opportunity to relax while watching the enchanting lush green landscapes, typical and manor houses reflected in the serene water of this river. Discover the historical importance of this region for the foundation of Portugal, such as the historic episode of the Battle of Arcos de Valdevez or the battle between the Portuguese and the Castilians (from Spain), in the Vez River Valley.
Once in Melgaço, we will visit a Vinho Verde producing estate to learn about the history, origin and winemaking process of this wine - which is exclusively produced in the Demarcated Region of Vinho Verde. You will also be invited to take part in tastings of selected Vinhos Verdes (green wines) produced locally.
After this tour with tastings, we will take a pause to enjoy a tasty traditional lunch included in perfect harmony. Relish the flavours of the food and drink, and the undulating and verdant local landscape.
Next we will proceed our private tour towards a landmark of military bastion architecture, the Fortress of Valença do Minho. Located in Valença - a fortified town with about 5 km of walled perimeter. Travel back in time to when Portugal was fighting for its independence from the Spanish and get to know one of the largest fortresses in the country.
Since the Upper Minho (Alto Minho) is mostly known for the green wine production, we will explore another estate, this time in Ponte de Lima and once again with tasting included. You will be able to delve into the differences between the local production of the wineries and compare the wines served. And you might understand why Vinho Verde is precisely the second most exported wine in the country, right after Port wine.
We will return to the city of Porto to your hotel or accommodation and we will conclude a day that will certainly bring back good memories.
