We will start this exciting day by meeting you at your hotel or accommodation in Porto. Your guide will be at the scheduled time in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus to take you on a magical full-day private tour of Santiago de Compostela.

We will cross the border between Portugal and Spain towards the historical centre of Santiago de Compostela to admire its ancient streets - these streets reveal monasteries, palaces, squares and other typical constructions of the city along the way.

The highlight of your visit will be the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela - declared an Historic-artistic Monument in 1986. The cathedral in Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architectural style was built in granite masonry with a Latin cross plan. Millions of visitors and pilgrims visit this world pilgrimage centre every year. You will also have free time to stroll around the city and get to know its streets, sites and other monuments of interest.

You will taste a delicious traditional Spanish lunch. You will be able to take the opportunity to relax a little or exchange views with your group about your magnificent excursion. And after lunch you can enjoy your free time to gaze at the city and its details more calmly and according to your tastes and preferences.

We will proceed back to the border between Spain and Portugal, where we will visit the last point of the Portuguese Way of St. James after entering Portugal, and that is a tourist landmark referring to the bulwarked military architecture of the Valença area – The 17th century Fortress of Valença do Minho. Construction that is considered one of the largest pentagonal fortresses in Portugal.

Valença not only proves to be one of the oldest Portuguese settlements, but also a fortified medieval town at the very time when Portugal was fighting for its independence against Spanish attacks. You will also find a statue of the first Portuguese saint - São Teotónio - who was an advisor to King Afonso Henriques. Through this military fortification and its expert guide, learn more about the history and battles of both countries.

We will return comfortably and safely to our lodgings in Oporto, accompanied by our guide, thus reaching the end of this magnificent journey.
